The Sua Sponte Story
CrossFit Sua Sponte is a school of fitness with locations in Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina. Owner/Founder John Dill is a former Captain in the US Army 75th Ranger Regiment. At CrossFit Sua Sponte we focus our fitness program on excellence in movement patterns, professional coaching and compassionate care for our members. We thrive on building a community with members from all walks of life and athletic experiences. As a CrossFit Sua Sponte member expect to make strength and fitness gains to improve readiness and overall quality of life.
We teach all levels of classes, basic to elite, in functional exercise, athletic conditioning, plyometrics, kettlebell training, Olympic weightlifting, medicine ball and dumbbell training, power-lifting, gymnastics, rowing, running and jumping rope. We pride ourselves on helping members from all levels of athletic experience and abilities, whether you are a stay at home mom, business executive, professional athlete or special operations soldier. The atmosphere is one of support and camaraderie which is reflected in the homage to Ranger motto “Of Their Own Accord.”

CrossFit Sua Sponte facilities are 5,000 sq each with professional grade equipment including: pull up bars, muscle-up bars/rings, climbing ropes, truck tires, sleds, dip bars, rowers, kettlebells, medicine balls, slam balls, barbells, and bumper plates. We utilize CrossFit as our primary training methodology, and focus on optimizing physical competence in each of 10 recognized fitness domains.
CrossFit Sua Sponte is a school of fitness where we foster an environment in which our members learn, grow and improve body and mind. Members become knowledgeable in the mechanics, strengths and limitations of their bodies. Members increase their endurance, stamina and flexibility.
At CrossFit Sua Sponte, we challenge members to use your brain as well as your muscles, to learn, to challenge yourself, to try new things you never thought you could. You practice new skills that require you to be focused and present. We teach you how to move your body with proper mechanics, to get stronger, faster and to increase your power output.
